It is located at Fort Benning, Georgia; the woodland terrain 'Benning Phase' is at Camp Rogers and Camp Darby, the 'Mountain Phase' is at Camp Merrill, near Dahlonega, and the 'Florida Phase' at Camp Rudder, Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. The first phase of Ranger School is conducted at Camp Rogers and Camp Darby at Fort Benning, Georgia and is conducted by the 4th Ranger Training Battalion. The "Benning Phase" is the "crawl" phase of Ranger School, where students learn the fundamentals of squad-level mission planning. This phase is critical to success, as it lays the groundwork for the "walk" and "run" phases. At Fort Benning, training is separated into two parts, the Ranger Assessment Phase (RAP) and Squad Combat Operations.
